Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts

4/5. A bunch of people – mostly excellent misfits and weirdos – get swept up in a sort of scavenger hunt across Boston after a billionaire dies, while one of them continues to hear the voice of her missing childhood best friend.

A lot Westing Game, obviously, and a little bit Melena Marchetta. Sparkling and absolutely saturated in quirkiness. And yeah, this plot, particularly the last quarter, does not survive first contact with, like, common fucking sense, but that is not the point of this experience. The point is these incredibly specific, weird people finding each other, and loving each other (sometimes badly), and how they all have ghosts in the basements of their minds. Or, in one case, a drag queen, bless.

[personal profile] readerjane, I suspect this one is for you.

Content notes: Mental illness, violence.

Hah! I was just about to get out my TBR list at the second paragraph, before I even saw your call-out. I've been underwhelmed with every book I've started, since finishing the Murderbot novel, and wishing for something better. In fact, I think I'll go buy this right now. *G*
