YK, the only thing about that book that stays with me (read it during collage) was her amazing chapter on the black plague. I have never forgotten those descriptions, the letters people wrote describing what they saw, how the town record statistics ballooned all out of realism, inflated by the horror around them, how many cities and farms just faded back into wilderness, how for years afterward no one ever bothered naming babies till they were well on their way to 10 years old.

Stuck with me hard. Ignored all the preachy bits, really :P
