Nice short review of TSR, especially the "impalement" motif. Honestly, I hadn't thought of that! I disagree when people say Richard's violence or sex is "gratuitous". I don't think the man ever puts anything in a book that is gratuitous. He's a very careful, thoughtful author and there's always a reason (motive) for every sentence he writes.
