3/5. Secondary world fantasy about four people from different not!Asian countries dealing with a killer magic dude in the aftermath of a decolonizing war, also spirit animals.
I was thinking of this as Robert Jackson Bennett but not as interesting because I'm mean like that. But what this truly puts me in mind of is the vast sea of undifferentiated anime that I suspect inspired it. On the plus side, the princess/lady thief lesbian romance is pleasing. So if you're into that sort of thing, and also girls who smoke pipes and women who command armies, this one is for you.
