Hmmmmm. I'm a huge fan of smart difficult books... but I also hate uncuddly characters. Though I'm sometimes willing to put up with them for the sake of the book (e.g., some of John M. Ford's books, the very occasional Iain Banks)... I'll have to check this out. Thanks!
