The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal

3/5. A book that I actually finished. Historical M/M. The gimmick is that the narrator has been publishing accounts of his adventures with a famous ghost hunter, a la Holmes/Watson, but that these are the unexpurgated versions that include their romantic relationship.

This falls into that category of Charles books that I enjoy, but feel generally lukewarm about. The assorted hauntings are appropriately creepy/sad/terrifying, so much so that this has the odd effect of being an interesting historical horror/fantasy somewhat awkwardly punctuated by sex scenes. Which almost sounds like I'm saying that the historical part of this historical romance is too good for the romance; that's not what I want to be saying, but in recent Charles reads, it kind of feels like that?
