War on Peace
3/5. What it sounds like – overview of the hollowing out of the diplomatic service over the last 20 years (yes, this is not all Trump's fault) with an emphasis on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Particularly relevant at this moment, as the U.S. scrambles to get everyone out of the Kabul embassy alive, JFC. A good book, though I suspect it would not be terribly accessible to someone who doesn't have a pretty strong base of knowledge in U.S. foreign policy. Also, I get why we had to hear so much about Richard Holbrooke, but my God, I am so tired of hearing about Richard Holbrooke. Particularly right now as I am on my slow-motion way out of a job under a record-breaking asshole boss and did not want to read about a different record-breaking asshole boss.
But, points for an Obama administration alum telling admin stories without tiresomely grinding seventy-five different axes (I'm looking at you, Ben Rhodes and pretty much every other Crooked Media person ever).
