Minimum Wage Magic and Part-Time Gods

3/5. Urban science-fantasy about a woman working in Detroit, a city with a god-spirit and a dragon consulate and almost no laws. About her absolutely massive family issues and a bad luck curse and hooking up with the mysterious badass former mercenary, like you do.

Entertaining indie* publications suitable for light reading. They don't really light me on fire, though, as the protag doesn't really have a community, and her only significant relationships we see are with her companion AI (interesting but unfulfilling) and the mercenary boyfriend (yawn). I've realized that for me, the difference between light reading that I enjoy and light reading that I love is that broader sense of community.

*I bring this up because these books are almost to pro publishing standards of presentation, but each volume had a continuity error significant enough to be startling. I mean, it happens, but I also notice, so there you go.
