Changeling in San Francisco is dragged back into faerie business when she’s forced to solve a murder.



I responded tepidly to this book. It had that quality where there’s this whole plot with a mystery and clues and danger, but I was left with the overwhelming impression at any given moment that nothing was happening. Kind of impressive, when you think about it. A whole lot of tell, with a sort of and now we tour all the faerie species vibee



I dunno, I’ll give the series another book, because I have the strong suspicion that I’m the cold fish in this equation at the moment.



Except the heroine's name is still October Day. I don't feel tepid about that. That is not okay.

Heh - at least it wasn't "Sunny Day" or "Rainy Day" :P

My only exposure to Urban Fantasy has been Charles DeLint, which I'm really hot & cold on. I love the universe he builds, especially through the short stories (he can't seem to construct a novel, it's just not the right format for him). His plots & characters are predictable, but somehow I'm usually so charmed I keep reading even though I'm complaining at the same time :P

I'd like to look into Urban Fantasy more though, cause it works for me. Not this book, however - "Light gives it only 2 out of 4 stars!?" just isn't worth reading :D

Hmm! You might try Gaiman's Neverwhere, which is more fantasy than urban, but it has that deep-set root in London as a city. Similarly Mieville's Kraken, though that one didn't do as much for me personally.

Oooo! Thanks for the rec! I've been holding off reading Gaiman for a few years now. Maybe it's time to give it a try :) I have a weird 'don't want to start till I can do it right' thing about authors with a huge body of work :P

Rosemary and Rue didn't do much for me either. I did like the second book more and felt it was less tell vs show. I still found it flawed, but reading it was a lot more fun.
