Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O'Keefe
Velocity Weapon
3/5. Scifi about a lady soldier waking up two hundred years after the end of a space battle on an enemy ship piloted by a traumatized AI, and stuff.
Checks a lot of boxes – casual queerness, sibling devotion, complicated AI stuff, twists (even if the big one is really obvious). But something about this never surpassed workmanlike for me. I have a strong impression of the author writing doggedly away based on her extremely detailed outline or notecards or something. There's an inorganic quality to this book – it feels very much pieced together and not grown.
