Dragon of Despair & Wolf Captured by Jane Lindskold

Books three and four of the Firekeeper series. You know, where the young girl is raised by magical talking wolves and then returned to her stock fantasy monarchic society for various court intrigues and adventures.

So the cool thing about these books is Firekeeper, and the part where she's completely in love with her wolf companion and all she really wants in the world is to become a wolf in form and have his little wolf puppies and rule a pack beside him. Because hi, that's what happens when you're raised actually believing that you're just a funny-shaped wolf. It's interesting and a little sad, and I'm impressed the books actually go there.

The bad thing about these books is the dialogue the human politics most other characters pretty much everything else. So, you know, save for when you're in a mood for KWality fantasy.
