The Last Sun and The Hanged Man by K D Edwards

The Last Sun and The Hanged Man

3/5. Urban fantasy with a system of courts based on tarot arcana where the sun arcanum is a guy trying to figure out who murdered his whole court and brutalized him twenty years ago.

This one needs AO3 tags: all the tropes, like bedsharing, and Canadian shack, everyone is queer because, queerplatonic bond, bodyguard, traumatic past, accidental teenager acquisition, repeatedly, found family.

I could go on. These are thoroughly entertaining, and they hit a lot of fannish sensibility sweet spots. Notable for introducing a boyfriend and then being like, yeah let's be real, we all know the queerplatonic bond with the bodyguard is way more important

Nota bien: I know very little about tarot except that I've gotten like five readings in my life and, hilariously? Alarmingly? Every.single.one of them was composed largely of major arcana. It's a thing. But anyway, my wife does know of tarot and sniffed in confused disapproval over bits of this book I relayed to her, so take that as you will.

Content notes: Past rape/torture.
