Interesting Times, The Last Continent, Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett

Interesting Times, The Last Continent, and Carpe Jugulum

3/5. What I thought: oh, I never actually read all of the Discworld, and I need something soothing and distracting right now, so here we go.

What I didn't remember: yeah, I hadn't read all of the Discworld. But that's because the Discworld I had left is . . . not the good stuff.

Let's not talk about the Rincewind books. Okay, I lied – they are about 45% skewering racist and ethnic stereotypes, and about 55% perpetuating and reinforcing them. That's not the ratio you want. Also, they have no heart.

Carpe Jugulum is at least a witches book. And it had a heart. It's Granny Weatherwax's heart made out of mountain stone and tooth floss, because that's what she had, but by god it beats.

CJ is kind of Lords and Ladies 2.0, but I confess that I still like it better, maybe because I've never seen A Midsummer Night's Dream all the way through.
