I know I went to a Montessori school as A Smol Child (preschool through 1st grade), and I... don't remember being discouraged from fantasy play, huh, that's fascinating. I have no idea if that was just the particular school I was at going "eh, whatever", my parents being like "well that's bloody stupid" because they were SFF fen, or *what*, but uh. Either way, I am bemused and agree that it seems like this is something being pushed in defiance of everything anyone who has ever spent half an hour minding a conscious toddler should know. O_o

Thanks for the review! Montessori's always been on the table for a few reasons for a kid of mine, but it's good to have the reminder to check into it and look at the particular school, etc.
