Nope nope nope nope nope.

This might be brilliant, but I will never know. It's a novel told in documentary fragments transcribed by a professor and telling the story of a werewolf….ish creature killing and raping his way through history, in the tradition of – you can figure out the books this one is descended from. And it's on the Tiptree list, so it likely has incisive and interesting things to say about gender and embodiment.

However.

I am currently acclimating to a new medication that makes me extremely nauseous most of the time. And I tried to read this book. On the train in the morning. With my first pill of the day on board. And I made it through some cannibalism, and I made it through a truly horrifying use of the word "slurry," and I got to the pregnant woman being forced to eat the – you know what, I'm going to do you a favor and not tell you.

And I noped out so hard, I left skid marks. I'm actually feeling better this week, but it doesn't matter because this book has become the sausage casserole in my fridge that I ate once when I was feeling awful, and now the mere thought of it makes me gag. Nope nope nope nope nope.
